What are QuickCare Clinics?
QuickCare clinics are there to meet the unexpected health care needs of you and your family during times when most other clinics are closed. These clinics, staffed by registered nurses and nurse practitioners, diagnose and treat minor health issues. They can save you a trip to the emergency room or having to wait for regular clinic hours.
When should I visit a QuickCare Clinic?
Here are some health issues that could be treated at a QuickCare Clinic:
• bumps, bruises or sprains;
• rashes, eczema, infected cuts or minor sores;
• sore throat, earache, colds and flu, cough, hay fever or nose bleeds;
• sore eyes with redness or infection
• stomach pain, diarrhea and vomiting, urinary infections or indigestion;
• headache, back pain or neck pain;
• birth control, or breast feeding issues; and
• stress or anxiety.
If you aren’t sure if you should go to a QuickCare Clinic or an emergency room, call Health Links - Info Santé at 788-8200 or toll free at 1-888-315-9257.
Will the clinics schedule weekend or evening appointments?
QuickCare Clinics provide walk-in services as well as by appointment.
Is there a QuickCare Clinic near me?
Manitoba’s first QuickCare Clinics opened their doors in 2012. The clinic in the Clearspring Mall in Steinbach opened February 21, 2012. Visit www.manitoba.ca/health/primarycare/quickcare for updates. For inquiries related to services offered at the Steinbach QuickCare Clinic call 1-204-326-7569.
Can I go to a QuickCare Clinic if I already have a regular health care provider?
Anyone can visit a QuickCare Clinic, though they’re not a replacement for regular visits with your health care provider. However, they are designed to help you access health care you need when your regular provider may be closed or at a time that is more convenient to you. Information about your visit to a QuickCare Clinic can be shared with your regular health care provider to keep your medical records accurate and up-to-date. If you don’t have a regular health care provider when you visit one of these clinics, staff can also help you look for one.
Why is the province opening QuickCare Clinics?
QuickCare Clinics are a part of a broader provincial plan to ensure any Manitoban who wants one will have a family doctor by 2015. To do this, Manitoba Health is encouraging more doctors to practice in the province while also introducing initiatives like QuickCare in rural communities to offer more convenient and timely health care.
