Pregnant women

Pregnancy

Whether you are thinking about having a baby, are pregnant or have already had your baby, we want to give you information that will help you make healthy and informed decisions at this special time of your life.

The Public Health-Healthy Living team and their community service partners want to work with you to ensure you have the healthiest pregnancy and baby possible. Public health nurses can support you and your family during your pregnancy and after you have had your baby.

Your public health nurse can support you in:

  • accessing prenatal health information and resources
  • making healthy choices in pregnancy
  • learning about feeding and caring for a new baby
  • getting the physical and emotional support you need
  • finding the community services that are right for you

As you experience your pregnancy, we can provide you with information about the Southern Health-Santé Sud Healthy Baby program which offers a wide range of health information for new parents - during pregnancy and about babies and families. Healthy Baby can ensure you receive the care you need for the overall best health.

We encourage anyone who is pregnant to self refer by calling their local public health nurse. We also accept referrals from midwives, physicians, social workers, and other health or social service providers.
