Call to Action - April 19, 2022: Recommendations for Immunization Post COVID-19 Infection

Recommendations for Immunization Post COVID-19 Infection

As you are aware, there was a recent change in the Manitoba recommendations on delaying a COVID-19 vaccine post infection with COVID-19.

When eligibility for second booster doses was announced on April 6th, 2022 to include residents of personal care homes (PCH) and elderly person housing (EPH) congregate living sites,  our recommendations related to vaccination post COVID-19 infection were as follows:

1)     Delay next dose by 2-3 months to maximize long term immunity

Since then, NACI changed their previous language and we adopted their new recommendation on April 8th, 2022- see April 13, 2022 Call to Action for Addendum to the Clinical Practice Guidelines:

2)     NACI has suggested a 3-month interval between infection and COVID-19 booster dose or 6 months from the most recent vaccine dose, whichever is longer.

We recognize that many sites had completed their planning based on the first recommendation and the change would have substantial operational impacts.  To minimize this impact,  those PCH and EPH sites that have planned their clinics, completed consent forms, ordered vaccine using the original recommendation of 2-3 months can proceed with immunization as planned.  For those sites that are still planning for their second booster dose clinics, please apply the most current 3 month recommendation to their planning.

Leads/Directors/Managers (or delegates) review, implement and share accordingly.
