imagine… a suicide-safer community

LivingWorks has been helping communities become suicide-safer since 1983. Our programs are part of national, regional and organizational suicide prevention strategies around the world. Developed using Rothman’s Social R&D Model, our programs prepare community helpers to intervene and prevent suicide. These learning experiences are interactive, practical, regularly updated and customizable. Comprehensive, layered and integrated, there is a program for everyone who wants to help.

ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)

ASIST is a two-day, skills-building workshop that prepares caregivers of all kinds to provide suicide first aid interventions. Professionals, volunteers and informal helpers all need to know how to help persons with thoughts of suicide in ways that increase their suicide safety.

Participation in the full two days is required. Enjoy small group discussions and skills practice that are based upon adult learning principles. Experience powerful videos on suicide intervention. Feel challenged and safe. Learn suicide first aid.

This workshop will be of special interest to:

  • people concerned about family & friends
  • counsellors, teachers & ministers
  • workers in health or justice
  • community volunteers
  • emergency service workers
  • mental health practitioners

As an ASIST-trained first aid intervention caregiver, you will be better able to:

  • identify people who have thoughts of suicide;
  • understand how your beliefs and attitudes can affect suicide interventions;
  • seek a shared understanding of the reasons for thoughts of suicide and the reasons for living;
  • review current risk and develop a plan to increase safety from suicidal behavior for an agreed amount of time;
  • follow up on all safety commitments, accessing further help as needed.

Open to Southern Health-Santé Sud Employees (including Physicians practicing in Southern Health-Santé Sud) and Community Members:

Registration Fee: $100.00

Course materials and nutrition breaks are included.

The lunch break is included in the registration fee.

Registration Deadline - March 1st, 2018

Registration is limited and processed on a “first come first serve” basis. If less than 15 participants are registered the course will be cancelled. Completed registration along with payment is required.

Course Cancellation Policy:

In the event of written cancellation received prior to February 20, 2018 the registration fee will be refunded minus a $25.00 administration fee. No refunds will be issued after that date.
