Hand Hygiene

Audio Version

We know that covering our cough and washing our hands is the best way to prevent germs from spreading.  But are we doing it?  Are we washing our hands… or… have we heard the message so much that we have become passive?

Consider all of the things you’ll touch today — from a debit card machine to a coffee cup, from a handful of trash to a toothbrush and perhaps even the toilet to a cellphone. It's easy for germs on your hands and to end up in your mouth. The solution is so easy: Wash your hands so those germs don't get a chance to make you or someone else sick.

And remember the steps for effective hand washing:

  • Wet your hands
  • Add soap, make bubbles (sing the ABC’s or count to 10)
  • Rinse well
  • Dry hands with paper towel
  • Throw into garbage
  • Use a new paper towel to turn off the taps
  • Throw into garbage
