Southern Health-Santé Sud Board of Directors December 2019 Meeting Highlights

Sacred Moment
Mr. Adam Monteith shared a YouTube video from Alberta Health Services,  entitled “Patient & Family Centred Care: Moments that Make all the Difference.” In the video, a family member shares the experience she had when her husband fell ill and endured a long hospital stay. Reflecting back on the experience, she asked her husband who made a difference during this time?  She was surprised when he shared that his Health Care Aide was the person who made a difference in his daily care. Every day, the Health Care Aide asked him what he had planned for the day.  This simple question made him feel like he was part of the team. The experience otherwise made him feel like he had lost his identity.

Patient and family centred care is about making patients and family an integral member of the healthcare team. It is also about encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care, including partners in planning, implementation and evaluation of existing and future care and services.

Quality & Patient Safety Committee of the Whole
Mr. Perry Poulsen, Provincial Lead – Digital Health & CIO, Shared Health and Mr. Shaun Twist, Executive Director of ICT Services, Shared Health provided an update on the current state of Digital Health and some of the projects underway to continue merging technology services under Shared Health/Soins communs.
