SH SS and BTHC Foundation logosBD Pyxis™ Medstation ES Automatic Dispensing CabinetsAs part of its COVID-19 relief initiative to support those on the frontlines of the pandemic, the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Foundation’s COVID-19 Community Hospital Fund has granted $100,000 to the Boundary Trails Health Centre (BTHC) Foundation.  The funds announced today will be used to purchase BD Pyxis™ Medstation ES Automatic Dispensing Cabinets that will modernize medication delivery in the BTHC Emergency Department.

“Ensuring that appropriate medication therapy is initiated and administered on schedule is essential for patients receiving care in the hospital,” said Jane Curtis, CEO of Southern Health-Santé Sud. “The new Automatic Dispensing Cabinets will optimize medication safety and workflow efficiency so that patients in the hospital can get the medication they require right when they need it.”

The BD Pyxis™ Medstation ES Automatic Dispensing Cabinets will control access to medication, standardize medication management and support regulatory compliance. This innovative technology will improve the way healthcare providers at BTHC administer correct medication, supplies and information for enhanced patient safety.

The BTHC Foundation applied for the grant and was awarded the funds to continue their ongoing work in support of the health centre in the community.

“The new Automatic Dispensing Cabinets will benefit the hardworking health care staff providing dedicated patient care on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Ben Friesen, Chair of the BTHC Foundation. “We are thankful to the CMA Foundation for generously funding this project that will support the safety of medication therapy for health care workers and patients receiving care at BTHC.”

The CMA Foundation announced the COVID-19 Community Hospital Fund as part of its commitment to provide COVID-19 relief. The $5 million fund supports hospitals across Canada with fewer than 100 beds to meet their evolving needs with activities, equipment and training for enhancing staff wellness, improving access to care and preparing for future pandemics.

"I am inspired every day by the dedication of physicians, health care providers and all hospital workers as they continue to confront the COVID-19 pandemic head-on,” says Allison Seymour, CMA Foundation President. "We know these are extraordinary times that require extraordinary support. From managing evolving health care needs to addressing changes in your community, to ensuring the proper equipment and training for your staff, our hope is that these funds will have a positive impact as you continue to navigate the challenges of the pandemic.”

The CMA Foundation is the charitable arm of the Canadian Medical Association and provides impactful charitable giving that furthers excellence in health care. To date, the foundation has committed more than $30 million in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
