board of dir

Sacred Moment

Board member Peter Veldhuis led the Board in a moment of silence to reflect on the purpose of the meeting. Board Chair Abe Bergen provided a reflection following the moment of silence about the practice and origins of the sacred moment at Board meetings.

Finance Committee of the Whole

Ken Klassen presented the financial report. The report showed a small variance from the budget for figures as of December 31, 2020. Southern Health-Santé Sud is currently demonstrating an operating budget surplus of $1 million with an expectation for this to reduce leading to the fiscal year-end. COVID-19-related costs are nearly $5 million year-to-date.

Capital Projects

The Board was given updates on two significant ongoing capital projects in both Carman (Boyne Lodge) and in Steinbach (Rest Haven). These homes are projected to open to residents within the year. The significant community engagement and support was noted to be a key success factor in these projects.
