Southern Health-Santé Sud Points saillants de la réunion du conseil d'administration mai 2021

Sacred Moment

Board member Adam Monteith shared a personal story about his motivation for joining the Board of Directors. It provided all board members opportunity to reflect on what brings each person to the table as individuals and how that collectively creates a common purpose.

Finance Committee of the Whole

Ken Klassen provided a verbal update on Southern Health-Santé Sud’s financial conditions. Unaudited statements were presented to the board demonstrating a balanced operating budget and a small surplus for the capital budget in the 2020 fiscal year.

Using Blood Wisely Designation

The Board of Directors was advised that Choosing Wisely Canada and Canadian Blood Services announced that Southern Health-Santé Sud has earned their designation as a Using Blood Wisely Hospital. The organization commended Southern Health-Santé Sud and its’ staff for the excellent work in reducing unnecessary red blood cell transfusions. The Using Blood Wisely Hospital designation symbolizes a commitment to red blood cell stewardship and to the continuous pursuit of quality improvement. In achieving this designation, Southern Health-Santé Sud is among a select group of hospitals that are making a difference for patients, donors, and Canada’s blood supply.

COVID-19 Vaccine Statement to Staff

The Board consistently has communicated its support for healthcare workers while respecting the role of Southern Health-Santé Sud staff in advocating for patients, clients, residents and the communities which are part of our Region. In the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic, we increasingly are concerned about the exposure of patients, clients, residents, families and healthcare staff to additional risk presented by colleagues who are not vaccinated. When people enter our facilities, there is an expectation of safety and that their health will not be affected detrimentally by their presence in one of our buildings. Residents who reside in one of our long-term care facilities are entitled to be safe in their homes. Further, we have a legal and moral responsibility to ensure a safe workplace. To that end, we are advocating in the strongest possible terms that all staff take steps to be fully vaccinated as soon as possible unless there is a compelling health related reason not to do so. In this way we can work together to provide the best possible protection and care for the people who depend upon us.

The next regular Southern Health-Santé Sud Board of Directors Meeting will take place virtually on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. For more information, please visit Board Meetings.
