Southern Health-Santé Sud to Tender for the Universally Accessible Main Entrance Project – Bethesda Regional Health Centre

Southern Health-Santé Sud is releasing a public tender for the universally-accessible main entrance improvement project at Bethesda Regional Health Centre (BRHC), Chief Executive Officer Kathy McPhail announced today.

“We are excited to reach this milestone so we can begin the universally accessible main entrance project,” said Kathy McPhail. “This new design will improve patient, staff and visitor flow and will allow for easier access to the health centre.”

The project builds on the recent modifications made to the existing ramp to further improve access to the health centre. When the project is completed, direct ground level access to the site at both the emergency department and the main entrances of the Bethesda Regional Health Centre will be in place. This will provide ease of patient and visitor movement into and throughout the building.  The region is partnering with Manitoba Health, Healthy Living and Seniors to complete the project.

“I’m happy to see this project is moving forward,” said Health Minister Sharon Blady. “I know it will make a real difference for people visiting the facility.”

The new entrance will add 2,045 square feet to the facility and include:

  • a new full-sized, pass-through elevator at the main entrance
  • enclosed stairs with an enclosed waiting space as well as an enclosed walk way link between the emergency department and the main hospital entrance; and
  • an external  canopy for weather protection for drop-off and pick-up of patients, as well as improved signage for wayfinding and security improvements

The tender is expected to close in mid-February, with construction planned to begin later this spring.
