Position Summary

Southern Health-Santé Sud is seeking an innovative, highly motivated team player for the position of Nurse Practitioner.  Reporting to the Manager, Health Services – Primary Care Clinics West, the Nurse Practitioner applies advance nursing and medical theory to the provision of clinical care, autonomously ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, pharmacological agents and performing minor invasive procedures.  The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing primary and consultative care to individuals and specific client groups in accordance with evidence-based knowledge and advance nursing practice.  The incumbent will also implement strategies to promote health and prevent illness

The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency of both official languages is essential (English/French)
  • Active practicing membership on the RN Extended Practice (EP) Register of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) and the scope of practice as defined by the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)
  • Advanced nursing care knowledge related to health assessment, diagnostic, pharmacotherapeutics and invasive and minor surgical procedures required
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent clinical nursing experience and in a primary care setting preferred.
  • Experience working across sectors and linking between programs/organizations considered an asset
  • Recent experience in primary care with emphasis on health education, promotion, and chronic disease management considered an asset
  • Demonstrated effective communication and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated effective conceptual, interpersonal, critical thinking/problem solving and decision -making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to changing situations, and function in a challenging environment
  • Willing to work flexible hours
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Office
  • Experience with electronic medical records and electronic health records an asset
  • Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required
  • Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00.
