Alberta Health Services : Trauma Informed Care e-Learning Modules

There is growing awareness of the need for trauma-informed care within health and social services organizations. Trauma informed services apply “universal precautions” where we relate to everyone based on the assumption that they have had traumatic experiences. It is about cultivating safety, trust and compassion in all interactions with patients, clients, residents and each other. Alberta Health Services have developed excellent e-learning modules to increase knowledge about trauma and the impact is has by creating connection, sharing knowledge and resources.  There are 6 modules:

  • Module 1: What is Trauma Informed Care?
  • Module 2: What is Trauma?
  • Module 3: Disaster Response
  • Module 4: Loss and Grief after Trauma
  • Module 5: Trauma in Human Service Workers
  • Module 6: Emotional Literacy

The modules can be reviewed individually and participants can print off a certificate after completing a module. Each module does take about an hour or so to complete. The time will be a little more if you also review some optional videos. It’s recommended to review module 1 before any others as it gives a good introduction to trauma informed care. The modules are set up so you do not have to review it in one sitting and that you can return and start back where you logged off.
